Edson Arantes do Nascimento was born in the town of Tres Coracoes on October 23, 1940. Pele is a soccer legend, dubbed him ‘The King Pelé’ or ‘The King of Football’. Pele is a Brazilian national player who has a real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé has been claimed as the best soccer player of all time. In 2000 he received the FIFA award revealed, along with Diego Maradona, the greatest player in football history. Brazilian national player who retired about 30 years ago (in 1977), but he remains a holder of a large number of records, and he remains the only player who was a member of three World Cup winning team. Pele is known as both a great goalscorer and scored a great goal, his combination of grace and technique makes it different, defining the greatest era in the history of the famous Brazilian football.

Pele was recruited to join a young team, managed by former Brazilian international Waldemar de Brito. Pelé went to join the junior Santos FC at the age of fifteen. At the age of sixteen, he moved to senior Santos where he lived for most of his career. His exploits attracted the attention of the national side and, at the age of seventeen, he rose to international star in the 1958 World Cup, scored a hat-trick in the semifinals and two goals in the final against Sweden. In World Cup 1962, he scored twice against Mexico before tearing a thigh muscle that makes it out of the tournament – even though Brazil went on to defend their title as World Champion.

In 1975 he was tempted by the megabucks America to come out of retirement and play for the New York Cosmos, where he remained for two years before retiring for good. Since retiring from football, Pelé has worked as a Goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and as an ambassador for the UN, working to protect the environment and fight corruption in Brazil. Pelé is, for the time being, the official Brazilian minister for sport.
